First, let us be plain about the observation point. The JMA station within Kaga City is "Kaga Nakatsuhara", and it stands on the inland side of the city. Its long-term averages are 69.6 frost days a year, 467 centimetres of snowfall a year and a long-term average maximum snow depth of 80 centimetres. Against that, neighbouring Komatsu City (nearer the coast) has 38.4 frost days. It falls heavily in December and January. The inland figures of 467 cm of snowfall a year and a maximum depth of 80 cm bear directly on clearing snow, on the roof and on the car.
